Flight By Nothing
Combining the elements of alternative-rock and indie, Dallas band Flight By Nothing delivers a unique and modern sound when it comes to the rock genre. The band has no method of making music a certain way. Flight By Nothing’s music comes in all shapes and sizes. They want to share the music they make through their instruments in an artistic and talented form. The key musical elements that reside in the band’s music are glamorous vocals, ravishing guitar melodies, funky-filled bass lines, and bold drumming/percussion.
Our story starts with some best friends from a small town wanting to share our soul and passion for music. We have all had some musical background growing up and have always been driven to music. One day we all decided to step up to our inner calling and form Flight By Nothing. All of us have dreamed — and still dream of getting up on a stage and entertaining a crowd with our instruments and the music we come up with. We really don’t limit ourselves to the music we make or the types of music we listen to. Flight By Nothing represents the endless boundaries of music and all the good things music brings to the table. Music is music. It’s everywhere and everyone has their own taste. We just want the world to hear what we got.
Meet The Band
I'm a Hispanic bass player who grew up with a strong passion for music. I grew up listening to artists like Vicente Fernandez all the way to Blink-182, I've always liked listening to a little bit of everything.
My style comes from a variety of places such as rock, indie, and a good amount of funk. Flea from The Red Hot Chili Peppers is my number one inspiration when it comes to playing bass guitar.
I've been singing since I was about 3 or 4 years old, and playing guitar since I was about 12 years old. I knew I wanted to be a musician after my first concert when I was 6 years old. It was a Fall Out Boy show in Dallas. Growing up, there was always music playing in the house. I specifically remember watching Michael Jackson concert DVD's. I'd always be trying to mimic his voice and dance moves. My love of performance started in 6th grade, when I joined musical theatre. I did 3 shows a year every year until I graduated high school, and those years of theatre definitely come back to me when I'm on stage with the band. My influences come from all over the place. Musicians that inspire my music are City and Colour, Panic! At the Disco, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Childish Gambino, Billy Idol, The Beatles, Walk the Moon, and Michael Jackson, just to name a few.
I grew up in a family with a lot of music fans, but no musicians. I just listened to whatever my parents listened to on Mexican radio stations while they worked around the house. I was exposed to classic rock by my uncles and my grandfather. It's funny, because the first time I was interested in guitar initially was because of hearing samples in hip-hop songs, but it wasn't until the moment I heard Guns N' Roses for the first time, that I really wanted to learn how to play. I'm mostly influenced by Randy Rhoads, Slash, Zakk Wylde, Van Halen, Andy Timmons, and Jimi Hendrix.
My passion for music has been within my heart and soul ever since I can remember. I have heard a lot of different songs and music genres growing up, and I have always had interest in all of them.
I really got into music in middle school whenever I joined my schools band. From there, I learned how to read music and how to play brass instruments. My choice of instrument wasn’t always brass though. I wanted to do percussion because it’s something I’ve always had a knack for. Although, I got stuck playing the French Horn, I fell in love with its unique sound. To my surprise, I was really good at it and always played the main parts and got solos until I graduated high school.
I picked up the drums when I was a freshman in high school. I never took lessons or learned it by the books. My household had a Pearl Forum series drum kit, and Conner and I would always jam covers or try to write original songs.
From that point on, I have always continued to have a love for music.
My main influence has always been within the rock genre. My favorite band is Sum 41 because of the energetic rock sound they deliver. I think they are incredible and they are definitely true rockstars.
Some of my favorite bands and artists that I’d like to share are Panic! At The Disco, The Beatles, blink-182, Childish Gambino, City and Colour, Walk The Moon, Logic, and the list can go on.
My favorite drummer of all time is Neil Peart.
